Research Interests:
Research & development of Intelligent Pedagogical Agents (IPAs) for use in behavioral science and early education. Automatic speech recognition and natural language understanding powered by artificial intelligence. Retrieval augmented generation and knowledge base construction.
Dr. Drobisz is an information technologist and an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Child & Family Studies (CFS). He also serves as an assistant director of the CBCS Research & Data Center and a REDCap architect at the .
He earned his PhD in Instructional Technology from the 911±¬ÁÏÍø in 2017 and holds BS and MS degrees in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and USF. His graduate research examined how different pedagogical agent designs influence attention, situational interest, cognitive load, and reading comprehension.
Before joining CBCS faculty, Jack Drobisz worked as a software engineer in the information technology, telecommunications, and defense industries, contributing to several research and development projects, including start-ups in computer hardware, networking, and educational software. His current work focuses on adapting emerging technologies for education and behavioral research. This includes design and implementation of an intelligent platform for Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Electronic Data Management and Expert Decision Making (EDM²) in early literacy and teacher professional development, as well as the Story Friends series of interactive e-books for preschool children.
