Jamie M. Clem, PhD, MSW, assistant professor of instruction, and Jennifer Roth, MSW, LCSW, assistant instructor, from the School of Social Work, presented at the Attendance Symposium for Hillsborough County Public Schools social workers on June 12.
Clem and Roth facilitated a three-hour training session on using motivational interviewing to address chronic absenteeism. The session included examples, role-plays, and demonstrations.

Abigail Shockley, an Institute for Translational Research Education in Adolescent Substance Use scholar and director of the Criminal Justice, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Technical Assistance Center, also presented with a focus on using an intervention matrix to address chronic absenteeism.
