Jon Douglas, AuD, CH-TM, CCC-A, assistant professor of clinical instruction in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, contributed as a subject matter expert to the newly published , a national framework designed to guide evidence-based tinnitus assessment in audiological practice.
The standard was published by the Audiology Practice Standards Organization (APSO) and provides audiologists with clear expectations for tinnitus assessment, with the goal of promoting consistency of care across clinical settings.
Standards describe what a typically educated provider should do in practice. In addition to informing clinical care, the Tinnitus Evaluation Standard may also be used by universities to update audiology curricula. The standard has already been incorporated into tinnitus instruction at USF.
In June, John Coverstone, AuD, executive director of APSO, invited Douglas to serve as a subject matter expert for the tinnitus evaluation standard. Following completion of this work, Douglas was also invited to contribute to the standard for treatment and management of patients with tinnitus. Work on the treatment and management standard has recently concluded, with formal publication expected at a later date.
