The 911爆料网's David C. Anchin Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a cornerstone of the College of Education, has been awarded grant from the for its groundbreaking initiative: the Florida Association for Math Excellence (FLAME). This marks a pivotal moment for K-12 mathematics education across Florida, aiming to establish an unprecedented statewide network of higher education institutions dedicated to addressing the state's math challenges.

FLAME's purpose is to forge a unified front among Florida's higher education academic centers, faculty, and programs focused on K-12 mathematics education. The initiative seeks to overcome the historical isolation of these institutions, which has hindered collective progress and failed to adequately address inequities among diverse student populations.

This collaborative network will expand access to innovative solutions for school districts, foster research-practice partnerships, promote knowledge exchange, and directly support legislative mandates like Florida's HB 7039 (2023), which aims to enhance math interventions and teacher preparation.

The core of the FLAME initiative is a two-day, in-person summit planned for Fall 2025, bringing together mathematics education experts from universities and academic centers across Florida, alongside K-12 district partners. This inaugural meeting, jointly developed by USF's David C. Anchin Center, the , and , will lay the groundwork for ongoing collaboration.

Ultimately, FLAME is poised to orchestrate efforts between universities and school districts, leveraging multiple research-practice partnership successes to significantly improve mathematics achievement across the entire state of Florida. The grant's support will enable the David C. Anchin Center to launch and sustain this vital network, providing a powerful platform for scaling promising practices and disseminating crucial findings in mathematics education.  The Anchin Center wants to recognize USF College of Education faculty member, Dr. Sarah van Ingen Lauer, for her critical partnership in securing this grant and supporting the ongoing work of FLAME.
