This spring, the Anchin Center hosted two engaging events as part of the Stories-to-Live-By Ecojustice Literacies Series, an initiative supported by a with USF College of Education faculty member Dr. Alexandra Panos. The series invites educators to explore the intersections of environmental change, social justice, and classroom practice.

On February 1, 2025, the inaugural session featured Becca Burton and Anna Hamilton, co-founders of , Florida鈥檚 independent reporting outlet dedicated to the environment and social justice. Drawing from their Dispatches from a Sinking State series, they shared powerful first-person accounts of environmental changes across Florida. Educators engaged in guided activities to craft their own narratives and discussed strategies for integrating climate-focused storytelling into their teaching.

On May 3, 2025, the series continued with an in-person 鈥淧od Club鈥 led by Dr. Lindsay Persohn and Leah Burger from USF鈥檚 Literacy Studies program. Participants listened to a curated playlist of four climate-focused podcast episodes in advance, then came together for an interactive discussion on how these perspectives could inform classroom practice. The event encouraged dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas for building students鈥 climate literacy.

Both sessions fostered a growing network of educators committed to preparing students for a sustainable future, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to navigate an era of rapid environmental change.
