Join Us for an Information/Q & A Session

The Institute will enroll up to 15 scholars each year from the University of South Florida (USF), Northern Arizona University (NAU), and community agencies.

This Institute is funded through a federal grant and covers all costs associated with scholar experiences, including in-state tuition and fees, textbooks, annual national conference registration, and required web-based training. Eligibility Criteria

Institute scholars will meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for admission:

  1. Be enrolled in a degree program, preferably masters or doctoral, at USF or NAU in selected areas including (but not limited to) social work, rehabilitation and mental health counseling, criminology, public health, behavioral health, clinical psychology, nursing, and education, or work full time on behavioral health issues, in a community agency or school;
  2. Demonstrate interest in pursuing a career that emphasizes services research in the field of child and adolescent substance use and mental health; and
  3. Commit to remain enrolled in the Institute for four consecutive semesters (spring, summer, fall, spring) and attend the annual Translational Research in Adolescent Substance Use conference during both spring semesters of the program.

  • Up-to-date resume or CV
  • Statement of Purpose (about 250 words)
  • Two letters of recommendation (at least one from a present or past professor)
  • Unofficial transcripts from each college or university you attended, to include military credits and CLEP scores (if not uploaded before)
  • Pay the non-refundable $30 application fee (waved for degree-seeking students)

Additional Information for International 911±¬ÁÏÍø

Current USF degree-seeking international students applying for this graduate certificate need to be aware of the following visa requirements and other information

  • ITRE pays tuition & fees at the in-state rate; be ready to pay the additional out-of-state fees.
  • 911±¬ÁÏÍø need to check with their international advisors prior to applying for a certificate program to learn whether their visa stay will be affected if the certificate program courses are counted as electives toward their degree program, which can reduce the amount of time toward graduation.
  • Student visas require the graduate certificate to be finished before or at the same time as the degree program.
  • In the Spring and Fall semesters, all USF international graduate students are required to take at least 9 credits with 6 of them in-person. 911±¬ÁÏÍø who apply for this certificate must be ready to take the required 3 online credits in the first Spring semester, 5 online credits in the Fall semester, and 2 online credits in the second Spring semester, on top of their in-person requirements.
