Designing A Student Success Plan

Strategy: Use AI to Develop a Student Success Plan 

Drafting student success plans using Artificial Intelligence can break down core skills into actionable steps that students鈥 support long term growth.

Rita Ortiz leveraged Microsoft CoPilot and ChatGPT to create a success plan for middle grades math teaching candidates. Not only could this success plan help the candidates understand the skills they will gain, but candidates could also use the plan as a guide for creating a resume and/or cover letter. Additionally, she plans to use AI to create 鈥渁n activity where the teaching candidates create a mock cover letter so they gain practice on how they can use these AI platforms, Copilot or ChatGPT, as tools for their career searching process.鈥濃

Instructor Tips 

  1. Using multiple platforms is beneficial. I compared both Copilot and ChatGPT to create the success plan for teaching candidates.  
  2. I made sure to include background information of my course. This helped with tailoring the prompts and ultimately, creating the success plan. Each AI platform generated 17 categories with brief explanations (two bullet points per category).  I found that could consolidate some of the categories so it would not appear as overwhelming for the students.  
  3. I will continue to compare AI platforms to ensure I am exposed to different formats and suggestions. This will help me decide the best approach to whichever prompt is needed to ensure I am meeting the tailored needs of the course.
