Enhancing Audio for Clarity
Strategy: Refresh Course Design and Media Quality Using AI-Enhanced Production Tools
AI-powered media enhancement tools can be used to support course design enhancements by improving the quality and clarity of existing instructional materials. These tools help modernize the student experience, strengthen instructional presence, and ensure that course content is engaging.

MHS 4452 – Co-Occurring Disorders
For MHS 4452 Co-Occurring Disorders, Dr. Scott Young partnered with Digital Learning Designer Zhaihuan Dai to refresh the course design and improve the overall quality of instructional materials. As part of the refresh, the design team identified an opportunity to improve the audio quality of existing instructor-recorded videos, including module introduction videos and lecture recordings. Although this was not an issue originally raised by the instructor, clear audio was recognized as critical to student engagement and accessibility. To address this, Adobe Podcast was used to enhance the audio quality of the videos. This enhancement improved clarity and listening comfort, helping strengthen instructional presence without requiring the instructor to re-record content.

Digital Learning Designer Tips
- Experiment with different audio enhancement settings to avoid distortion or unnatural sound quality.
- Evaluate audio sources first and be cautious when enhancing videos that include audio from external sources (such as movie clips or music), as AI tools may produce undesirable results in these cases.
