Strategy: Integrate AI-Powered Practice Tools to Support Professional Skill Development
AI-enabled tools can be strategically incorporated into course design to support authentic, career-aligned skill development. By embedding AI-powered practice platforms into core assignments, instructors can create structured opportunities for students to actively apply professional competencies, receive timely feedback, and connect academic learning to real-world expectations in their field.

MHS 4723 – Pro-Seminar: Behavioral Healthcare
In MHS 4723 – Pro-Seminar: Behavioral Healthcare, Professor Nickie Zenn and Dr. Pam
Alvarez partnered with Learning Designer Bianca Tolve to redesign the course structure
and integrate an AI-powered professional practice tool to support real-world skill
development.
As part of the redesign, Big Interview, an AI-powered mock interview platform available
as a USF resource, was integrated into a core assignment.
911±¬ÁÏÍø selected either a job interview scenario using real behavioral healthcare
job descriptions or a graduate school interview scenario based on their intended program.
911±¬ÁÏÍø recorded mock interviews, received automated feedback on elements such as
eye contact, filler words, tone, and pacing, and then participated in peer review
activities to further refine their performance. This integration provided a hands-on,
engaging application of course content while introducing students to a professional
tool they can continue to use beyond the course.

Digital Learning Designer Tips
- Align AI tools with real-world application: When integrating an AI tool like Big Interview, make sure the assignment closely mirrors real-world scenarios students will encounter.
- Scaffold the experience: Don’t just give students a AI tool, offer preparation materials and practice opportunities (e.g., templates, interview question guides, peer feedback).
