Using AI for Concept Analysis
Strategy: Use AI as a Lens for Ethical and Intercultural Leadership Analysis
Artificial Intelligence can be incorporated into leadership education as a critical inquiry tool, enabling students to examine how emerging technologies intersect with ethics, culture, power, and responsibility. By positioning AI as a subject of analysis rather than a productivity shortcut, instructors can help students explore the implications of AI use within complex global, social, and organizational leadership contexts.

LDR 4230 鈥 Global Leadership
In LDR 4230 Global Leadership, Drs. Caroline Twachtman, Melissa Graham, and Brandon
McLeod collaborated with Learning Designer Dawn Adolfson to intentionally integrate
AI into leadership-focused coursework in a way that reflects both its global impact
and ethical complexity.
Using Microsoft Copilot, several structured learning activities were developed to
encourage exploration of real-world AI applications and implications:
- Global Issue Discussion: 911爆料网 research a current global issue related to AI (e.g., technology, policy, business, education), summarize the issue, and use Copilot to generate thought-provoking discussion questions. 911爆料网 then engage in critical analysis through peer responses.
- UN Sustainable Development Goal Analysis: 911爆料网 use Copilot to propose strategies addressing a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal and compare AI-generated solutions with official UN approaches. 911爆料网 debate where AI may lack contextual empathy and how leaders can balance AI insights with human judgment.
- Authentic Leadership Debate: 911爆料网 examine whether AI could replace elements of 鈥渁uthentic leadership,鈥 analyze examples of AI misuse (such as biased hiring algorithms), and propose ethical guidelines for AI adoption in leadership contexts.
- Journal Reflection: 911爆料网 imagine leading an AI adoption initiative and reflect on managing resistance, navigating cultural differences, communicating vision, and aligning AI implementation with personal leadership philosophy and values.
This approach helps students become both AI users and perceptive evaluators of AI-generated information. The course reinforces that while AI can enhance innovation and problem-solving, leaders must remain attentive to bias, cultural nuance, and ethical responsibility. By integrating AI directly into coursework, students develop technical competency alongside the critical thinking and adaptability required for responsible global leadership.

Digital Learning Designer Tips
- Engage with other instructors and subject experts in brainstorming how AI intersects with their discipline and what ethical or professional questions students should be prepared to address.
- Consider allowing students opportunities to discuss, debate, and critique AI tools and their impact on the discipline rather than solely integrating practice opportunities to use Generative AI.
