USF Sports Business Bootcamp (Grades 9-12)

A five-day sports business program for high school students in partnership with the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program.

From the locker room to the C-suite, students will explore the dynamic world of sports management, marketing, finance, and operations. Through engaging workshops, interactive challenges, and exclusive field trips to local sport organizations (e.g., the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and USF Athletics), you'll go behind the scenes and learn exactly what it takes to build and maintain a winning professional or collegiate organization.

This isn't your average summer program! This program is built on interactive learning: you'll work in teams to tackle real-world business scenarios, hear from top executives in the industry, and ultimately, pitch your own sports marketing ideas to a panel of experts on the final day. Get ready to turn your love for the game into a game plan for your future career.

Analyze Industry Structure and Career Paths

911爆料网 will be able to identify and articulate the core functions of the business departments within a professional sports organization (e.g., Marketing, Sales, Finance, Operations, Legal) and describe the educational and experiential pathways required to pursue a career in each area.

Demonstrate Professional Communication and Engagement

911爆料网 will develop foundational professional skills, demonstrating the ability to confidently engage with industry professionals (guest speakers, staff) through effective questioning and conversation, and will learn to deliver a concise, well-structured, and persuasive five-minute business, sport marketing pitch to a panel of experts.

Formulate a Strategic Sports Marketing Plan:

911爆料网 will be able to apply market segmentation principles to design a comprehensive, audience-specific marketing strategy. Specifically, they will formulate a plan that includes a clear value proposition, identifies appropriate digital platforms for the 13-18 age group, and aligns a hypothetical budget allocation with measurable success metrics.

When does registration open for the USF Sports Business Bootcamp?

Registration for all 2026 summer programs will open on February 1, 2026.

What is the capacity of the USF Sports Business Bootcamp?

The USF Sports Business Bootcamp has a capacity of 30 campers. 

Where is the USF Sports Business Bootcamp located?

The USF Sports Business Bootcamp is located at the USF Tampa Campus. 911爆料网 will share the exact camp location closer to the start date, and all details will be emailed to you in advance.

What time is drop-off and pick-up for the USF Sports Business Bootcamp?

Our staff will be ready to greet your child for drop-off at 8:50 AM, with pick-up beginning at 4:00 PM. If you are running late for either drop-off or pick-up, please give us a call at (813) 974-3355 to keep us informed.

After registering for USF Sports Business Bootcamp, when will I start receiving logistical details?

You will receive several reminder emails leading up to the camp start date. Emails will be sent 60, 30, 14, 7, and 1 day prior, each containing important information to ensure a successful experience at the Vinik Sports Business Bootcamp.

Will my child need a device for the USF Sports Business Bootcamp?

Yes, every camper will need a device for the camp. 911爆料网 strongly encourage your child to bring their own laptop, as they will be most comfortable using their own device during the camp. 911爆料网 have a limited number of laptops available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What is the daily schedule for the USF Sports Business Bootcamp?

Each day of camp will be broken up into 2 main sessions.  The morning will include hands-on engaging activities and guest speakers from our local professional and collegiate sports teams.  After lunch, campers will travel to local sport properties (e.g., Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, USF Athletics) for onsite tours.  On the last day of the camp, campers will pitch their own sports marketing ideas to a panel of experts and USF professors. 

How does the waitlist work if the USF Sports Business Bootcamp sells out?

If the program fills, families may join the waitlist. When a spot opens, we email everyone on the waitlist with a registration link. Enrollment is first come, first served, and the spot goes to whoever completes registration first. Joining the waitlist does not guarantee a spot, and there is no fee to join.

Staff & Safety

Who are the USF Faculty/Staff who will be leading the USF Sports Business Bootcamp?

The Sports Business Bootcamp will be led by the following USF faculty and staff:

Dr. Michelle Harrolle is the director of the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management program and will help lead the bootcamp. She teaches marketing, sales, and fundraising in sports and entertainment and is known for supporting 100% residency and fellowship placement for students. Harrolle is an author and researcher in esports and has deep industry experience as a D1 collegiate coach and sport event director. In her roles as a coach and professor, she has previously worked at the University of Florida, Florida State University, The Ohio State University, Providence College and North Carolina State University. 

Dr. Chris Brown is an associate professor of instruction in the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management program and will lead sessions during the bootcamp. He teaches sport, entertainment, and hospitality courses and is published in multiple leading journals. His expertise includes sports tourism, fan loyalty, and internship practices, and he brings experience from academic roles at UNLV, Kennesaw State University, and Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Kelly Leto is the academic services administrator for the School of Hospitality and Sport Management and will support the bootcamp. She coordinates scheduling, program operations, HR appointments, budgeting, and logistics for the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management and Hospitality & Tourism Management programs. Leto is a USF graduate who has worked across several colleges at USF.

Are staff background-checked and trained?

Yes. All staff undergo Level 2 background checks and complete USF鈥檚 youth protection and safety training.

Residential Options

Are there residential options available for the USF Sports Business Bootcamp?

Yes, the USF Sports Business Bootcamp is eligible for Rocky鈥檚 Residents, a residential add-on offered for select high school programs. This option provides 6 days and 5 nights of supervised on-campus housing, meals, and evening programming that supports community building and exposure to university life.

During registration for your day camp, you will have the option to add Rocky's Residents as part of the process. There is no separate registration required for the residential program.

How much does the Rocky's Residents residential add-on cost?

The cost for Rocky's Residents is $1,395 per camper. This includes:

  • 6 days and 5 nights of accommodation at Juniper-Poplar Residence Hall
  • All meals provided at USF Dining Halls
  • Supervision and activities led by trained counselors
  • Recreation and wellness activities, including sports, fitness challenges, and more
  • Access to campus facilities, such as recreational fields and study lounges
  • A campus tour and presentations from USF Admissions and Student Success
  • Evening events with student organizations and USF faculty
  • Laundry facilities for campers' use
  • 24-hour on-call emergency maintenance and support

Cancellation & Changes

What is the cancellation, transfer, and refund policy for USF Youth Experiences programs?

If you need to cancel or transfer a camp registration, please email youthxp@usf.edu.

Cancellations or transfer requests received at least 15 business days prior to the camp start date will be eligible for a refund or transfer to another available camp, minus any administrative or processing fees. Cancellations or transfer requests received within 15 business days of the camp start date are not eligible for a refund or transfer. No refunds will be issued after a camp has begun, regardless of the number of days attended or participation level. No refunds will be issued if a participant is dismissed from camp due to a violation of the camp鈥檚 conduct policy or code of behavior.

In the unlikely event it becomes necessary to cancel, postpone, or combine camps, or change a camp location, you will be notified by email or phone. Please ensure your contact information is up to date. If USF cancels a camp, you will receive a full refund. If USF reschedules a camp, you will have the option to receive a full refund or transfer to the new session.
