Applying for graduation is a requirement to finish at USF. Let's get started to learn more about how to apply for graduation:
Quick Facts:
- Graduation Application Requirement: You must apply for graduation regardless of whether you plan to participate in Commencement.
- Commencement Brochure Deadline: To ensure that your name appears in the Commencement brochure, you must apply on or before the priority graduation deadline date.
- On-Time Deadline: Graduation applications submitted by the on-time deadline date will be included in the preliminary certification review conducted by college certifiers.
- Final Certification of Degree Timeline: Certification of degrees begins once final grades are posted and can take up to 6 weeks.
To receive your diploma and have graduation reflected on your transcript, visit Student Self-Service before the application deadline and select "Apply to Graduate".

Special Program/Degree Information
Applying for Two Degrees:
Undergraduate students who signed a contract to complete two degrees and all international students approved to pursue two graduate degrees cannot apply for one degree without the other. Even if the requirements for one have been met, both degrees must be requested in the same term. A separate application is required for each degree. If you are pursuing two majors, you may also have to submit two graduation applications.
Honors GPA and Student Self-Service
Your honors GPA may be different than the GPA you see in Student Self-Service and
Degree Works as there are specific requirements which must be met to qualify for i. Consult with your college advising team for additional questions related to graduating
with honors.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply for graduation if I am a Former Student who no longer has access to Student Self-Service?
If you are unable to log in to Student Self Service and need temporary access to complete your Graduation application, please follow the steps below:
- Describe the Issue: If you can no longer log in as a student, please specify that in your request.
- Submit a Request: Send an email to help@usf.edu including the following details:
- Subject: Request for Temporary Student SSO Login Access to Student Self-Service (IAM)
- Message: "I am currently unable to log in as a student. Please grant me temporary Student SSO login access to Student Self-Service so I can complete my Graduation application."
- Include Relevant Information: Make sure to provide your full name while attending USF and your student ID to help the support team identify and resolve your issue faster.
- Next Step: Once your request is received, the support team will review it and provide you with temporary access to Student Self-Service. Temporary limited access will be granted for 48 hours.
- Apply to Graduate: From the Student Self-Service landing page, select Apply to Graduate under the Student Record heading.
How do I get my (EGD) Expected Graduation Date updated?
Contact your academic advising team to request an updated EGD. Your advising team will inform the Office of the Registrar of the change they have authorized.
Can credits earned as a Non-Degree Student transfer into my degree program?
As an accepted student at USF, you may apply to transfer a limited number of hours taken as a non-degree student into your degree program; a maximum of twelve semester hours taken at the graduate level and fourteen maximum at the undergraduate level.
Transfer credit for more than twelve graduate level hours taken as a non-degree student must be approved by the Dean of the Graduate School. A maximum of eight semester hours (or three courses) may be transferred from another graduate school. Transfer work must be posted to your student academic record no later than one full term prior to your graduation.

The degree conferral date for all degrees is typically a week after the last day of classes for the semester.
