Public Speaking Lab
The Public Speaking Lab seeks to help undergraduate and graduate students grow their public speaking skillsets for academic and professional opportunities, such as:
- Speeches/presentations for a class
- Conference presentations
- Thesis/dissertation defenses
- Lectures and keynotes
- Job talks and video job applications
During the semester, students can schedule an appointment with a lab mentor for one-on-one public speaking support that鈥檚 specifically tailored for their needs. Depending on a student's needs and situation, appointments may be in-person or virtual.

Services that mentors offer can include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide feedback on speech/presentation outlines and manuscripts
- Discuss strategies to manage communication apprehension
- Create a speech plan (e.g., research, writing, delivery)
- Provide feedback on delivery for in-person and/or online speeches
- Help design presentation aids for specific contexts/audiences
