Professor Mohamed Elhamdadi receives a Simons grant
Professor Mohamed Elhamdadi was awarded a $42,000 Simons Grant over fove years for a project on Algebraic Structures in Knot Theory. These algebraic structures, called 鈥淨uandles,鈥 are fundamental in distinguishing knots (one of the main problems of knot theory) and have been used recently to study protein folding properties.

A Center for Cryptographic Research
Professors Jean-Fran莽ois Biasse and Giacomo Micheli, along with USF Computer Science & Engineering professors Mehran Kermani and Attila Yavuz, have created a Center for Cryptographic Research at USF. It was launched with a grant from the USF Strategic Investment Pool and will have a particular interest in cybersecurity. Professor Biasse has been named its first director.
