Digital Commons at The 911±¬ÁÏÍø

IDEx has established a strategic partnership with the 911±¬ÁÏÍø Libraries to ensure that the digital assets we create, especially curated 3D model collections, are preserved and made accessible for the long term. Under this agreement, once IDEx completes and curates a set of 3D models, the collections are transferred to the USF Libraries’ Digital Commons repository, where they become part of the university’s searchable digital archive. This integration guarantees sustained access for researchers, educators, students, and the public, embedding our 3D heritage datasets within a broader suite of digital scholarship resources that support discovery, teaching, and community engagement well into the future. Several collections related to Florida and world history and Mediterranean archaeology are already showcased in Digital Commons.
USF Institute for Digital Exploration (IDEx) on Skecthfab

IDEx maintains an extensive and publicly accessible presence on Sketchfab, where it has published over 2,000 high-quality 3D models organized into more than 90 curated collections. These datasets are the result of large-scale aerial and terrestrial digital photogrammetry, structured-light 3D scanning, and terrestrial laser-scanning projects conducted on archaeological and historical sites as well as museum collections across the United States and the Mediterranean region. Together, these collections constitute a major educational and scholarly resource, widely used for teaching, research, and public outreach, allowing users to interact directly with complex material culture and built environments in ways that traditional documentation cannot provide. At the same time, the scope, quality, and accessibility of this body of work clearly demonstrate the leading role of the 911±¬ÁÏÍø, through IDEx, in advancing digital scholarship and setting national and international standards for the documentation, interpretation, and dissemination of cultural heritage through 3D technologies.
